Hulu is charging?

Well not really. This popular site for watching television online has announced it would start charging people a subscription fee for watching older episodes.

This new feature, called Hulu Plus, would cost $9.95 a month.

Hulu is under pressure to make money for its owners, News Corp, NBC Universal and the Walt Disney Co. that are use to bringing in large profits.

As much as I don’t want to pay a subscription fee to watch episodes of Glee, I can see this working. Think of it as a cable subscription. You get the networks, in this case the most recent five episodes, for free and then pay for the rest.

Hulu, however, has one big problem it needs to deliver video in HD. When the iTunes version of the latest episode of Glee looks better then Hulu, things aren’t good.

Hulu has the technology to do this; even YouTube does it.

But as a customer who is extremely stubborn when it comes to HD video, I would rather shell out the $2.99 a week to be able to watch video in HD.
